My business is recession-proof.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

- Matthew 7:24-27 (New International Version)

I have some really awesome friends and enjoy our little random deep conversations. One of them recently with a dear friend of mine touched on the upcoming recession that’s supposed to be happening and she encouraged me to share some of the nuggets we discussed.

Now my immediate response to anything concerning a recession or anything else affecting the rest of the world is “that don’t apply to me!” I strongly believe that as God’s people we have protection from things that will come on the world's systems and I got beaucoup scriptures that back me up on that too -- like when darkness fell on the Egyptians but the Israelites had light in their dwellings (Exodus 10:23), or when Isaac sowed in a famine and reaped a hundredfold in that same year (Gen 26:12) to name a few.

Here’s the thing though: recession is as predictable as rainfall. It may not always come at the exact day and time the weatherman predicts, but if it’s in the forecast, chances are high that it’s gonna fall soon. This recession is a thing and your business could be impacted by it if you’re not prepared for it. Remember this:

The only place of security we have is in obedience to however God is leading us.

You gotta be planted where He wants you to be, doing what He wants you to do. Remember, He knows the future. He’s the parent. Just like when mom / dad / gramma / auntie would tell you to come get in the house when the street lights came on; it may not have always made sense when you were a child, but now you know they were protecting you from mess that happens when the sun goes down. In this week’s scripture Jesus tells us the rain is gonna fall on er’body, but it won’t destroy us when we’ve built according to His direction.

What is God telling you to do right now? And if you’re not confident enough in your relationship with Him yet to know that you know that you KNOW He’s telling you to do something,

  1. Be honest with yourself about it. Don’t beat yourself up or do anything foolish and call it God. Use your own natural wisdom and common sense to secure yourself while you’re building your ability to hear God’s voice.

  2. Make getting confidence in hearing from Him a priority. Get clear on His direction for you in this season by any means necessary.

Trust and believe He loves you and is committed to protecting you. Keep seeking Him in everything you put your hands to and, no matter what comes your way, your plans will achieve success and you will continue to flourish.
