God needs me to scale my business.
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
- Ephesians 4:15-16 (New International Version)
I was binge-listening to Season 3 of the Serial Podcast while driving to and from my hometown this past week. It chronicles the stories of several individuals going through the Cleveland justice system in an effort to provide a snapshot into what our justice system looks like as a whole in our nation -- spoiler alert: it doesn’t look good. Corruption, deep-seated racism, you name it. Not sure why I decided to listen to something so heavy on my way to kick it with my family 🤷🏾♀️, but I’m glad I did because it left me with a sense that one day I want to do something to help the people who are most affected by these atrocities.
Then this past Sunday, during his sermon, my pastor hit me with one of those one-liners that only pastors know how to hit you with. It went something like this: I am the local address of an omnipresent God.
Whew! I know it’s not new news or anything but it hit different this time because, after the reaction I had to the podcast, it felt like God was purposely reminding me that if we don’t do something about it, how can He? We’re literally His hands and feet in the earth.
That’s when I got an even greater sense of the importance of my business (and yours). This week’s scripture really drives it home by basically saying that we each have a part to play in the Body of Christ. As business-owners, we have the potential to bring in massive wealth to God’s Kingdom that can fund the various missions He’s working on. Our businesses can be “the power to get wealth” (Deut 8:18) that He promised to give us, if we let them.
We have to be intentional about setting them up that way though.
If you haven’t sat down to figure out how your business can realistically make at least a million dollars per year, do it! A business that is able to scale successfully is a business that God can use to effect massive change. God 👏🏾 needs 👏🏾 more 👏🏾 million-dollar 👏🏾 Christian businesses! Why can’t yours be one of them?
Your business isn’t just for you. There are people out here suffering who need God’s help; help that He can only provide through His people, aka YOU. That’s why He needs you to stop playing small. That’s why He needs you to quit being afraid, get out of your comfort zone and create the wealth He’s given you the ability to create.
And if you've been struggling to think that big, maybe it's because you haven't looked outside of your own needs yet. Take a moment to consider a cause that you hold dear to your heart. What if you could do something about it? What if YOU could do more to help those people?
You can do more. And your business, that vision, gifting or talent God gave you, is the key. Have the audacity to believe your business can bring in that kind of money. Then create your million-dollar plan and work it.

1 Corinthians 3:9 → You (and your business) are God's garden that He's tending. You're not in this alone. God will help you create your million-dollar business plan.
Romans 12:5-8→ All of your gifts are for the benefit of others. Use them.
Proverbs 21:5→ Make the plan but don't feel like you have to rush into it. There's levels to this. Start where you are, scale a little bit, repeat.
