God is grooming me for greatness.
“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”
- Luke 2:52 (New International Version)
Been working on finishing a book I started reading like 8 years ago (The Blessing of the Lord by Kenneth Copeland if you’re curious), and came across a note I wrote down in the margin of the book back in 2011. It said:
“Be encouraged. Jesus’ life didn’t have many highlights until He began His ministry at 33 :-) He grew & grew & suddenly His fruit started bursting forth. Yours will too.”
I was 25 at the time, still living at home with my mom and frustrated with my life in general. I knew I had all this potential and God had an amazing plan for my life but it just didn’t look like it would ever come to pass.
And to be completely honest with you, my life is only just starting to get there. I’ll actually be 33 this year and I’m finally starting to see the tip of the iceberg of God’s vision unfolding for me.
If you’re in a similar place as I was back then and still feel like you’re waiting for your time to hit, remember this:
Jesus had to grow too.
Think about that. As much God as He is, He didn’t come out of the womb raising the dead and walking on water. He too had to mature through the process just like we have to. I even imagine He may have felt some of the same frustration we feel when we know there’s more for us out there than the mediocrity staring us in the face every day. He knew who He was at a very young age (Luke 2:49) but even He had to go through the motions before it was time for Him to step into His calling.
Now that I have the advantage of hindsight, I can see all the little ways God was preparing me back then for this stage of my life. That’s why I can confidently assure you that if you’re in that “in between” space right now, even though it doesn’t look like it, God is grooming you, fertilizing you, watering you & giving you everything you need to grow up into that vision you see. Your only job is to be patient with Him (and yourself) as He does the work in you.
Prayer for the “in between” space
Father, I thank you that you understand how I’m feeling right now. Help me to hear your voice comforting me while I wait for the visions you’ve shown me to manifest. Give me peace while I’m in this stage of my development. And help me to be patient with You (and myself) as you prepare me to walk in my calling. I surrender the “getting there” part to you right now and with Your help, I will just focus on hearing and obeying whatever you tell me to do in the meantime. I trust You with my whole heart and lean not to my own understanding. I acknowledge You in the life I’m building right now and thank you for directing my paths. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
